Colors: On Red

There is something so attractive about the color red. Red, succulent strawberries. A racy red sports car. Red stained lips on a starlet.

Red is provocative. It makes a statement.

Once you start moving from red to pink, the statement changes from daring to demure. Some think because our blood is red it attracts the human eye the most - red can signal danger. In design though, touches of red signals a touch of drama.

We've been thinking about pop art lately - I came across the image above and it made me pause. If the lip impression had been a blushing pink, would it convey the same message? Nope. Red says a lot, even when there is nothing being said at all.
