A Week of Firsts
First Day of Mentorship
Today, 09/12/2012 was my first day mentoring at American and International Designs. I am so excited and grateful to Susan Arann for giving me the opportunity to learn first hand from someone as knowledgeable
as she is. Since it was my first day, I did mostly organizing and filing. One would be surprised how much there is to learn from these tasks. I had to make categories of different pictures of objects that
belong in homes, and in doing so I learned new names for furniture. I can't wait to go back next Wednesday.
First Week in School
This past week was my first time as a student at the New York School of Interior Design. The entire student body is made of people who want to be designers. It's different from liberal arts colleges because anyone can go to a regular college, just because it's expected by society. To be a NYSID student, means to have the passion of learning art and design, and creating it. I am currently in the Basic Interior Design program because I don't have much of a background in the drawing/ painting aspects of the arts. Therefore I need to learn the basics. The teachers at NYSID are so friendly and ready to help out, or give advice. I was shocked to see my drawing skills improve after only one day! Each lesson is extremely valuable and I cherish them all.
Although my week of firsts was overwhelming, its clear to me that the combination of my education along with this mentorship will put me on the right path to becoming a great interior designer.
