The Van Cortlandt Design Journey - Part 4: Progress in the Main Room

We started this series discussing the plans for the Main Room including restoring the grand staircase, taking advantage of the interesting architecture of the ceiling and creating several areas for club members to enjoy within the Main Room itself.

The process is messy but the end results will be spectacular.  This is the grand staircase of the room.

The bar area will become a fabulous place to sit, relax and have some refreshments.  The front of the bar will be refinished with paneling salvaged from the locker room restoration.  By repurposing the original woods, it helps bring a cohesive flow to the overall project.

The ceiling in this section of the Main Room was already architecturally interesting, but we have enhanced it by staining it an ebony along with the beadboard to create a statement and increase the richness of the space. 

The natural stone around the fireplace creates such a warm and welcoming environment.  It plays well off of the rich, dark color of the ceiling and beadboard on the walls.  

Many hands on deck help bring the design to life.  The columns are being created while the tray ceiling, created using the same dark wood as the slanted ceiling is being worked on as well.  Note how the stone on the fireplace against the back wall ties so nicely to the rich, dark wood on the ceiling.
