Weekend Makeover: Two Days, One Amazing Transformation

What made this guest studio makeover so unique was the challenge and excitement of a short time frame.  Organization and pre-planning are the key to keeping any project on task and on schedule, especially one as accelerated as this one.  What I love about this makeover are the luxurious finishes throughout the space that all came together so seamlessly on my two-day design invasion.

                                             BEFORE

We started with an amazing space - great trim, fabulous ceiling, natural light and a clean canvas.   The goal was to create a studio like space where a guest could come for a long stay and feel right at home.  In order to accomplish that, we had to create several spaces within one large room that could coexist without one overpowering the other.  We started by laying out the room on a computer with scaled furniture in order to get a better sense of how the space would come together.  

Now it was time to put together a plan of actual materials for the room. We used a neutral color palette of black, white and grey throughout the space to help tie the different sections of the room plan together.  We found a balance of privacy and natural light through window coverings which created their own statement in the room.  We used artwork along with furniture and grouped accent pieces to anchor separate spaces within the overall room.

 It's All in the Details

The black, white and grey palette is anchored by the elegant bedding from Peacock Alley.  The window treatments include two-toned panels and Hunter Douglas Allustra roller shades.  The bubble lamp, nightstand and headboard are all from West Elm. The gray and white accent pillow is from Z Gallerie.  

To create privacy for this guest studio while still allowing for as much natural light as possible, I used Hunter Douglas Allustra roller shades. The Palladium windows pour in natural light that keeps the space bright  The chrome floor lamp from Z Gallerie is sleek and modern.  The pillows and throw from West Elm add comfort and texture to the sofa.  

Bold, bright color is a great way to accent a black & white palette.  Adding a large mirror over the floating custom countertop helps to expand the space and create a multi-purpose area for guests to utilize during their stay.
