Designer's Best Picks: Mackintosh's Glasgow School of Art
Recently in the press for surviving a large fire, The Glasgow School of Art in Scotland, has been one of my favorite places to visit. Originally founded in the 1800s, the school found itself moving from building to building to find the right fit for its students. Finally with a move into a building designed by renowned artist and architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh the Glasgow School of Art became permanently associated with his name.
Now a new building is constructed for the school, designed by Stephen Toll and named for the most recently retired director. The Reid Building creates an amazing contrast of modern design against the Mackintosh classic architecture. Seeing them together honors the history of the school while showcasing the strength of its future.
We wish all of the graduating students participating in the Degree Show next week the best. These are budding artists and designers that have studied at a top school for the arts.
