Once Upon a Time's Wickedly Elegant Design

These are images from the mayor's office on the set of the television series Once Upon a Time.  What keeps catching our attention is the emotions that this set invokes.  The storyline basically follows traditional fairytale characters out of the Enchanted Forest and into a modern day town where they all play a role similar to their original lives.  In this case the mayor of the town is the Evil Queen and this is her wickedly luxurious office.

The intimidation starts with the gorgeous black and white birch wallpaper that gives the impression of being inside a dark, barren forest.  The wallcovering is part of the Eco Chic line by Seabrook called Sandpiper.  As the cameras pan, the wallpaper images seem to move and sway along with it.  We like to use wallpaper that creates movement in our own design spaces and appreciate how strong this effect can be.

The designer kept the color palette black and white and used furniture with classic, elegant lines.  All patterned fabrics are scrolling and connected.  The solid upholstered pieces anchor designated areas around the room.  Every element used in the space serves both an individual as well as a collective purpose - the cornerstone of an effective design.  This wickedly beautiful and haunting design invokes a feeling of fear and intimidation.  We always feel that a designed space is a reflection of the owner, in this case, the owner just happens to be an evil queen and this design truly mirrors her.
