Celebrating an NYC Cultural Pearl
The Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden just hosted their 32nd Neptune Ball, an annual gala featuring fine dining, entertainment, art and music. As always it was a delightful evening, beautifully decorated and expertly choreographed.
New to the Ball was Snug Harbor's Farm-to-Table cuisine, amazingly fresh food which elevated the overall experience. Snug Harbor's Heritage Farms "was established to help feed, inspire and educate the local community". Heritage is working to promote the importance of eating locally to support the area, a venture near and dear to me. This is truly a delicious example of community.
My first apartment was around the corner from Snug Harbor. I remember playing tennis at Walker Park courts and then taking a stroll over to Snug Harbor Cultural Center. My fondest memories from that summer were the attending the Art Festival and walking the grounds admiring the historic buildings. At the time, I wasn't studying interior design, but developed a tremendous curiosity and admiration for the detail and craftsmanship of these structures and the grounds.
From that curiosity sparked great interest in the center. I later volunteered and fell in love with the area. Looking back, it may have been this period of my life that set the background for my future in interior design and community outreach.
Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Gardens is such a pearl in the New York City cultural scene that it shouldn't be missed. With the resurgence of the North Shore, I know that more New Yorkers and tourists from around the world will be visiting and falling in love with these amazing grounds.
